Do you have a favorite plant? If so, why is it your favorite?
Probably my weeping fig tree. I got it as a baby plant,
only about 6 inches tall, about three years ago and now it’s
a little bush that’s bigger than an exercise ball. There’s one
of the same species in front of my childhood home in the
Dominican Republic. It’s over four stories high and I grew up
looking at it from my window, so I love the idea of having
a mini version of those in my apartment in NYC. It’s a little
piece of home.
How did you learn ceramics? What kind of ceramics do
you teach? Is Single Leaf Ceramics your own shop?
I took my first ceramics class in college; prior to that I had
zero experience with it. After the end of the semester I was
hooked. Clay and I have been inseparable ever since.
I teach both hand-building and wheel throwing to adult
beginners at a local pottery studio. My specialty is actually
being a jack of all trades; I have experience with all methods
of building and different kinds of clay, from earthenware to
stoneware.
Single Leaf Ceramics is indeed my own little ceramics
shop! … I started it during my last year in college.
How did you learn to play piano? What kind of piano
music do you like to play?
I went to piano lessons as a kid, from ages 4-14 and I
studied classical music. As a teenager I quit, but a couple
of years ago I brought it back into my life. Now I’m back to
taking weekly lessons. I play mostly classical, but I’m starting
to dabble into jazz and blues piano, as well as writing my
own pieces.
