Kay Brandt celebrates playing
together and staying together
It’s still morning on the set of The Lustful Wife, but
the shoot house is already vibrating with energy. Few
are more energetic than director Kay Brandt, who
admits she didn’t get to bed until 5:15 in the morning.
“As soon as the sun came up, I’m awake,” she says.
“So I’ve got an hour and a half of sleep.”
But that’s what’s got to be done to shoot a 35-
page script in two days. Production manager David
Lord says, “It’s a big show. And everything matters.
When it’s a dialogue-driven show, every look, nuance
matters, so you’ve gotta take care of it.”
This is Brandt’s fifth adaptation of a Selena Kitt novel
for Adam & Eve Pictures. “It’s crazy. It’s a genre!”
Brandt crows.
As with her two biggest hits for the studio—
Babysitting the Baumgartners and Unfolding—the
movie focuses on a couple who plays together and
stays together. And that’s what Brandt likes. “We’re
not going to fall on anger, frustration, divorce. I really
don’t like what I see out there. I see a lot of divorce
