be used by a broader base of customers, and stocked in various areas of an adult boutique.
“The packaging is catered toward women, but we have been selling into the transgender
market more and more,” he said. “So stay tuned—we may have some new things there
down the road. Traditionally these items have been for women only, but other parts of
our customer base are definitely using these to help people who are transitioning.”
Whether the “sexy shapewear” movement of late turns out to be only a passing fad
remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that lingerie, accessories and more designed
with the goal of boosting confidence for customers is here to stay.
“When we launched our Curve by Fantasy Line in 2013, we coined the tagline ‘Sexy
is For Everybody,’” Fantasy Lingerie’s Leilani Whitney noted. “That was, and continues
to be, our belief. We look at what either flatters and enhances the figure or what shows off
curves and lines. Everybody has different requirements as to what makes them feel sexy about
themselves, so it has to start there. If you feel more confident showing only a hint of what is
available, there is a garment that covers everything. If you feel sexy showing as much as possible,
we have silhouettes for that as well. We are not telling a woman what to wear in order to feel
sexy; we are offering options to explore their sensual side in a way that makes them feel the best
that they can.”
Coquette’s Heather Stockton echoed those sentiments, and noted that attitude can play as big a
role as fabric and lace.
“The adage that lingerie makes women beautiful is a lie,” Stockton said. “Women are already
beautiful, but sometimes we just don’t feel it. Coquette strives to emphasize every woman’s
beauty by providing designs that make her feel confident. Lingerie that makes women feel
confident makes them see and feel their own beauty, and that is the true goal of Coquette.”
What you’re accentuating when you wear lingerie
is NOT the clothing itself, or even the body—it’s a
feeling. A fantasy. And in our fantasies, we always
envision the sexiest and most confident
versions of ourselves.

and accents like lacy appliqués and sassy ribbon
detailing. The modern updates are sure to appeal to
a younger crowd, and many can be worn not just as
undergarments, but as the basis for a casual yet daring
outfit.

“We’re constantly looking to see the latest fashion
trends and what types of items with help ‘support’
these, whether its styling tape, full cleavage bras,
strapless/backless bras, etc.,” explained Andy Green,
president of Xgen Products.
“When the line first came out about five years ago,
some retailers were skeptical on how it would sell,”
Green added. “Granted, the line had a lot more items
back then, but over time we have fine tuned it to
only best sellers. We now have sales figures to show
retailers and let them know that they will have success
with the line. None of the items are overly costly so its
not a big investment for them, but when one customer
buys it, and is thankful that the store had it in stock,
everyone wins. No one is going to make a killing on
these items but it’s more about selection and customer
service and helping accessorize the sale for a greater
total.”
Green said many of the items from Hollywood
Curves are geared toward female bodies, but they can
