to 4X,” Stockton added. “Metal spiral boning allows
for real corsetry shaping—the ability to create an
hourglass figure that will hold all night. The 7105
corset (and plus-size version 7105X) features black lace
over a stunning deep purple satin with twill lining
and a removable ribbon belt. The 7130 corset (and plus
size version 7130X) features black lace over silver satin
with twill lining and has beautiful velvet details. We
kept the classic silhouettes in these designs but added
a modern touch with removable straps and garters and
bold styling. Slip either of these pieces on and you’ll
instantly feel like a curvy goddess.”
Rago Shapewear could very well have been the
predecessor to the sexy shapewear movement. In
business since 1945, the company has produced
in the past 50 years more than 300 silhouettes that
are perfectly adjusted to accomplish the shaping
tasks consumers desire. Even when shapewear fell
into decline in the 1960s and 1970s, Rago continued
producing quality garments and weathered the storm.
Today, while Rago offers more traditional shape wear
pieces, they have added elements to appeal to a wider
audience: satin and lace are included, as are pastel
pinks and bright reds color palettes. Some of the
fabrics are patterned with florals to make users feel
sexier.
Fantasy Lingerie is a manufacturer that has been
a favorite in recent years of plus-size customers for
its collections that also are designed specifically for
a more ample figure. While Fantasy Lingerie doesn’t
specifically focus on creating shapewear pieces,
Managing Director Leilani Whitney said the company
recognizes customers are looking for the benefits and
boost shapewear can give women.
“Shapewear is not an area in which we are currently
focusing. I believe shapewear is here to stay as it just
morphs with the times,” Whitney said. “We went from
girdles to control-top pantyhose to today’s shapewear.
Woman will always want to find a way to feel that they
are looking their best.
“On occasion, we will do pieces that will have an
aspect of shaping—for example, high-waisted panties
made with material that holds everything in place
as well as push-up molded cups, but they aren’t true
shapewear pieces,” she added. “They are pieces that
flatter and accentuate the body.”
But that doesn’t mean Fantasy Lingerie isn’t paying attention to the trends, nor is the
company ignoring the wants and desires of its clients.
“We have a wide selection of women and customers whose opinions we value, and
we ask them what they are looking for regarding fit and design,” Whitney said. “Those
opinions, mixed with predictions of current and next season’s trends, are then tossed in
with the brilliance of our design team.”
Seven ’Til Midnight, distributed by Xgen Products, was another manufacturer with
a spring collection at the Altitude Intimates Show that made shapewear sexy. While the
company got its start in the industry with dainty bras and panties, delicate babydoll
and more, this year Seven ’Til Midnight debuted pieces that featured bright jewel tones,
body suits with strappy backs and shapewear pieces that added bold geometric shapes
