and camming. “My friends thought I should be a porn star because
I was very open about my sexuality as a dancer. I also taught dance:
I can read choreography charts and I also know how to count to
on AdultDVDTalk, I’m on Twitter
constantly. I answer everybody. I
enjoy sex, and I enjoy my career. The

Statuesque Lauren Phillips (“With two L’s: I like to
(“leotard, tights, hair in a bun, always ready for
ballet class at 8:15 in the morning”) before she
moved to Florida and started working in the adult indus-
try in “amateur-pro porn, like Reality Kings and Mofos”
eight,” she adds with a laugh.
“When I first started in porn I was testing the waters,” Phillips
says. “But I found out that I’m an exhibitionist at heart. The thrill
of it being videotaped and people watching me exhilarated me even
more. I would get off on it. It exhilarates me that people are the
watching my scene while I shoot it, and there are going to be even
more people watching my scene, rubbing and jerking off to me. It
was an exhilaration.”
Her first scene was for Monster Curves 23 for Reality Kings: “They
asked me, ‘Can you do this pose?’ with my legs over my head.
And I was like ‘Of course I can.’” Her favorite scene so far is Stick to
the Script with Danny D for Brazzers. “I was a telemarketer doing
dirty talk and he was my boss, getting off on my dirty talk. It was
a really good scene. If you like rough sex I totally recommend it.”
Her dream scene is a gangbang “where I’m bathed in jizz. I’d like
James Deen, Mick Blue, Prince Yahshua, Moe the Monster, Marcus
London, Dick Chibbles. There are so many people. If I could get a
million guys in there I’d be ecstatic. I haven’t worked with James
Deen and Mick Blue yet. You always want to work with someone
you haven’t worked with.”
She is heavily invested in building her personal brand: “I’m a
little more business-oriented than people would think. When I
decided to come to L.A. I planned it out, first going to Florida and
camming and building my name, so when I came to L.A. I had a
bigger fan base. I interact with my fans all the time, on FreeOnes,
adult industry is a community, and
it’s a lifestyle I chose. I hope someday
civilians understand that as well.”
She is right now reading a book of
essays by porn stars on telling their
parents and friends about their work
(Coming Out Like a Porn Star, edited
by Jiz Lee), and she just finished
Asa Akira’s Insatiable: “It was very
interesting. I didn’t know she did a
little bit of the drugs and stuff. Her
detail was amazing. How she ended
that book left me wanting more.”
(Fortunately, there is more: Akira’s
second book, Dirty Thirty, is now
available; see page 28.)
Her words to live by: “Life isn’t
about waiting for the storm to pass,
it’s about learning to dance in the
rain.”

WHO’S WHO
April, doing a solo scene for Score
Maci May started performing in late
Group in South Florida. “It was
fun. They treated me like a queen,”
she remembers. “I felt pampered. They had
a giant dressing room. You strip, you put on
your robe, they do your hair and makeup, and
you feel all pretty.” After that she shot with
Reality Kings (“I did a street blowjob with
Tyler Steel”) before moving to Los Angeles.
“It wasn’t my first choice,” she admits
about working as talent. “I went to college. I
wanted to be a geologist. After I graduated I

wanted to stay in Gainesville but there weren’t many job
opportunities. I was a server in a restaurant, not the most
exciting life. I’ve been active on Fetlife.com, which is like
Facebook for kinksters. I had a big following, and I was
scouted for an agency in South Florida. I called them and
talked to an agent, and I decided to give it a try.”
She has worked with ATK and Team Skeet, but her
eyes sparkle when she talks about working for Kink.com.
“That was great. The best. I did a hardcore gangbang.
It was fun. Five guys.” She was impressed by her first
visit to San Francisco (“I freaked out when I saw the
Golden Gate Bridge”) and the Armory was “amazing. So
big. Everything I could ever want was in there. And the
sets are amazing.” For the gangbang, she played a slutty
secretary caught in a porn version of the Purge, called
“The Urge.” “They made me squirt twice: Once with
fingers and once with dick. That was my first of many:
I’ve never done a gangbang, I’ve never been double-
penetrated, I’ve only done anal a few times. It was a lot
of firsts for me. I made one guy cum early, inside me. At
first I thought they were joking, but no.”
She was surprised to find out “there’s a lot of work
involved in porn. It’s not as effortless as they make it
seem in videos. There’s acting involved. You don’t just lie
there and take it. You can, but it’s not exciting. You have
to converse with the guy, and you have to position your
body in a way that’s good for the camera. It’s not what
feels good to you, it’s what looks good for the camera.”
She likes to read fantasy and science fiction, and “I
used to read encyclopedias. Things that have information
about different countries. I like reading. It transports me
to a different world. I like comics and graphic novels too.”
She likes “the freedom to travel to new places and meet
new faces. Also the sex is pretty nice too.” Her quote to
live by is from Winston Churchill: “You have enemies?
Good. That means you’ve stood up for something some
time in your life.”
“Somebody called me plucky,” May says. “I have a
personality, and I’m not afraid to be myself. I think it’s
important in the porn industry to stay yourself. It is
important not to be something that you’re not. Because
if you’re something you’re not, it’s going to translate on
camera. People will sense that you’re going through the
motions. I’m very energetic and excited about everything.
And I want to learn everything there is to know.”
