This Just In
Love, Sex & TV News
named Best Comedy
Ryder and Scott David
While X-Play producers Will
have earned dozens of
trophies through the years,
primarily for parodies, the duo doesn’t
mind a bit when a win comes in for an
original script.
“Out of all the awards we have won I
think I am most pleased with this AVN
trophy for Best Comedy because I truly
didn’t expect it,” Ryder, who also directed
the movie, said about the 2016 AVN
Award bestowed on Love, Sex & TV News.
“Love, Sex & TV News for Adam & Eve
Pictures is our first original comedy since
we produced Flight Attendants, and both
won the AVN Best Comedy trophy; so
maybe I should have done more original
comedies.
“We created a ton of parodies of course
along the way, which kept us busy and
won awards, but it’s really exciting to
create a brand-new story with fresh
characters that rise from nothing but my
mind. I love the process of writing an
interesting story that a large audience can
relate to and I think there is something
intriguing about a big-market TV news
station, so this movie was perfect for me.”
Love, Sex & TV News is the story of
News 10 and the high-stakes world of TV
journalism. News 10 was once the No. 1
station, but lately it’s slipped down the
ranks. Associate Producer Maggie (Sarah
Vandella) is stuck in a rut and hasn’t had
sex in months, and her boss is bugging
her to get the station back at the top.
“I think that viewers can relate to
the central character of Maggie—played
wonderfully by Sarah Vandella—because
she has problems just like most people
do,” Ryder said.
“She really makes you forget she’s a
porn star and actually becomes a TV news
producer. It was a wonderful cast and
I think the fact that it truly looks like a
working TV news room makes this movie
sizzle. If you have a believable great script
with relatable characters you might have
a chance for success and this is one of my
best movies ever. It plays much more like
a TV show than a porn movie, which is
part of the appeal.”
“I love our cast, including Roy Karch,
Nick Manning and Frank Bukkwyd,
who bring real-life newsroom grit to the
screen,” he added. “These guys could have
worked at a TV station.”
“Thanks to all the great AVN staff over the years, past
and present,” Fishbein continued.
He also thanked “Mark Stone and Gary Miller, who
helped make this awards show the industry’s biggest
night.”
Then Fishbein shared his gratitude for the
irreplaceable Christian Mann, the late executive “who
was one of my best friends in the world,” and his wife,
Amanda, calling her “my rock.”
The show began with a memorial reel of those
individuals the industry lost in the past year. A tribute
to the AVN Hall of Fame Class of 2016 followed with
photos of each inductee gracing the video screens.
Jules Jordan Video won Best Gonzo (Eye Contact),
Best T/A Movie (Bra Busters 6), Best Anthology Movie
(Oil Overload 12), Best POV Sex Scene for Jillian Janson,
Aidra Fox and Jules Jordan (Eye Contact); the namesake
owner also collected a Best Director—Non Feature
trophy for Jesse: Alpha Female.
Paul Deeb received the Best Director—Feature honor
for his work on the ambitious Lionreach/Adam & Eve
co-production Marriage 2.0, which also won the first-ever
award for Best Polyamory Movie.
Another multiple winner was Hard X, which won Best
Ethnic Movie (Latin Asses), Best Oral Movie (Facialized 2)
and Best Orgy/Gangbang movie (Gangbang Me 2), Best
Anal Series (DP Me), and Best Group Sex Scene for the
gangbang starring Keisha Grey, Mick Blue, James Deen,
Jon Jon, John Strong & Erik Everhard (Gangbang Me 2).
Presented by live-chat heavyweight Chaturbate under
the direction of executive producer Gary Miller, the AVN
Awards attracted an international media contingent that
included CNBC, Fox News, Buzzfeed, Vice, French TV,
Canadian TV, Spanish radio and other outlets.
Miller taped the show for broadcast on Showtime
later this year.
Director of the Year
Greg Lansky makes a clean sweep
Blacked.com imprints hauled in a combined
Director Greg Lansky and his Tushy.com and
16 trophies at the 2016 AVN Awards. And to
top it all off, the industry veteran took home
the top honors for a helmsman in the adult industry:
AVN Director of the Year.
“I’m still completely blown away and humbled by
these honors that AVN has awarded us,” said Lansky,
who is also the chief creative officer for the brands’
parent company, Strike 3 Holdings. “I have so many
people to thank, and none of this happens without a
great team, so first and foremost, to them, thank you for
seeing my vision and working so hard to see it through.”
Tushy.com, launched in the summer of 2015, received
seven awards. For its part, Blacked.com collected eight
awards including honors.
“Adult entertainment is art, and adult performers are
artists, don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise,” Lansky
said on stage while receiving the Director of the Year
award. “I’m so thankful for all the amazing performers
I work with—they are courageous, they are artists, and
now the world needs to acknowledge that. I have so
much respect and love for this industry, it’s a privilege
to work with so many talented people who are as
committed as I am.”
Lansky commented later about his Director of the
Year victory, “Winning this was a dream of mine, and
while it was an honor being nominated, it feels special
to win. There were a lot of very talented directors on
this list and it was a fantastic year for bringing quality
in the adult industry so I’m humbled that AVN would
award me with such an amazing achievement.”
