How did you discover cosplay and how
do you integrate that into your shows?
I grew up one of the wacky theatre
kids. My mom helped me design
and make my costumes as a kid, and
eventually I took over completely. I even
designed and screen printed my own
fabric for one when I was about 16-17—I
got an award for it too! It’s something
that brings me so much joy… I can just
completely lose myself in it, no concept
of time or limits to what I can create.
I like to stream myself cutting fabric,
making patterns, sewing, and try my
best to get on cam in character every
Saturday. Lately we’ve been doing
cosplay construction on Saturday’s since
it’s con-season and there’s so much work
to be done!
What have been your most popular
cosplay characters?
For me personally, it’s a toss-up
between my Tomb Raider and Corpse
Bride. They both require the most prep
time (to get bloodied/full body painted)
and look the most ‘polished’ to me. I’d
say Harley Quinn and my variations on
her are most popular on-cam due to the
recent movie, though that’s a reason I
like to stay away from her. Original HQ
for the win!
What drew you to computer science as
a major in college?
I fell in love with programming for a
lot of reasons. It’s clear, in that there’s a
logical and definitive answer for most
things, and I’m drawn to that because
I enjoy logical thinking, simple yes/no
answers. It’s also oddly creative… there
are many different styles and ways to
solve a problem and I find it a great
parallel to how I deal with humans in the
real world. We might end up with the
same return from a program, but have
completely different ways of getting
there.
