What do you like most about camming?
The freedom means everything to me. I remember
working for a certain corporation and I showed up one
day with purple hair and they were livid, so I quit. I
don’t live for the judgment of others, and especially in
an industry where technical knowledge and experience
should have superseded my appearance, I just couldn’t
live like that anymore.
How did you spend your first camming paycheck?
I’ve always been pretty boring fiscally. I cried after
getting my first check and got a new laptop for school.
I made in two weeks what I was previously making on a
‘great’ work month.
How did you spend your last camming paycheck?
Most of it went towards taxes. I did get an Elgato HD60
to record/stream from my Nintendo Switch, though.
How did you come up with your unique cam name?
Oh man, I get asked this almost everyday. A few
factors went into it, there’s a set of Facebook stickers
called ‘HackerGirl’ who are a cute little pink-haired
computer programmer who wears glasses and is generally
awesome. My first day of camming I had the same hair,
started my first classes in C++ the next day, and figured it
was an easy reference to ‘get.’ It turned into a beast! I was
being nerd-checked everyday by wannabe ‘brogrammers’
as I dubbed them, and written off by a lot of people who
probably would enjoy my show due to proclaimed ‘nerd-
pandering.’ I love my GitClub, and honestly I’ve thought
of changing my name but HackerGirl literally is me. I can’t
change that.
What advice would you give a new cam model trying to
establish herself?
The best advice I’ve gotten was to genuinely just be my
true self. If you’re not comfortable with your personality,
by all means make one of who you’d like to be. This is
literally your space. No one can take it from you. No
one can tell you who to be but yourself. That’s the most
freeing thing in the universe.
