eHow did you learn how to train and eat?
Everything I learned, I learned from my coaches. They are
fantastic to have and have years of experience. After I had a
better foundation, a lot of the things became trial and error.
Knowing which workouts are best for my body and muscle
building, and which foods agree with my body best. This has all
taken time and consistency.
How has your training and eating evolved?
I went from starving myself to be skinny, to eating six full
meals a day. I had zero understanding of how metabolisms
work, and I assumed less calories = less weight. Which is
definitely not the case.
I now weigh out my protein, and carbs and I know what my
body needs in order to maintain, build, or lose weight. It really
has been an enjoyable process learning about my body.
How would you describe your experiences in bodybuilding
and/or fitness competitions?
Bodybuilding has become a huge part in my life, both while
prepping for a show and while I am ‘off season.’ It has become
such a part of my daily ritual, that I am always packing food
with me, and always planning my day around gym time. It’s
very consuming, but in a good way. I love working towards a
set goal, and every day I feel like I get closer and closer to that
goal.
The intense diet and training require a mindset I never knew I
had, and each show I push myself more and more and surprise
myself with how much grit and tenacity I’m able to find within.
Where are you with your helicopter training?
I have around 50 hours of flight time, with four hours of solo
time. There isn’t a set number I need to hit. It’s a matter of
knowledge both inside the helicopter and out. I hope to have
my license by spring of 2017.
Why do you like to fly?
Flying is unreal. It is impossible to describe the feeling of
flying solo. It would be like trying to describe a color to a
blindman. It is thrilling and completely intoxicating. I love
activities which require me to be focused and there is no other
activity in my life where I am as focused as I am while piloting.
Who or what inspires you?
The previous year version of myself. I look at what I have
done in my life the year prior and I try to beat her every time.
Great accomplishments don’t happen over night, but as long as
I feel like I have beat the girl from the prior year, I feel on track.
