“It all just kind of worked out together.” — Joel Someone
When they received a 2021 GayVN Award nomination for their scene together at Missionary Boys, Marco Napoli and Joel Someone had a few reasons to smile. Not only was it their first nomination together, but that shoot held a special place in their hearts.
“(Joel) had worked with them several times. I wanted to work for them, but since he was having success and kind of making a name for himself there, I didn’t want to push them,” shares Napoli. “So I just said to myself, ‘Stand back, and if it happens, it happens; if not, you have other companies to work for.’ But one day they called, and they said, ‘We want you and Joel together.’ And the weird thing was, the day that we went was the one-year anniversary of the dinner we had together where we made it ‘official.’ They knew about that, and they had cupcakes for us to celebrate. It was really lovely.”
The duo met in the summer of 2017 before either had done any filming (“I wanted to have immediate sex with him,” laughs Someone. “I told him he was the sexiest pharmacist ever”). After sporadic encounters for a few years, Napoli made his interest clear in April of 2019—after both had started their adult industry careers in 2018.
“It all just kind of worked out together,” Someone says of the first shoot together. “It all meshed. He’s someone I have a deep love for. He’s been very good at kind of tempering down the public coupling, because it’s hard sometimes. Anyone in a public relationship as a porn actor will tell you that sometimes, the pressure of having all the fans love your relationship can mess with it a little bit, so we’ve had a lot of very private moments. And that was a nice kind of means of opening it up a little bit, like having something for the people to watch and kind of appreciate.”
Since then, they have continued to rack up GayVN Awards nominations both together and apart—and have moved from long-distance dating to close. “When you share a home together, you start to do the day-to-day stuff together, and that has changed our relationship,” shares Napoli. “It has brought us a lot closer.”
