The shoot required more dialogue and character development than the performer was
used to.
“I had to memorize more lines than I’ve ever had to memorize before, and I got to work
with Marc (MacNamara), who I had never worked with before—he was amazing. It was fun
and very challenging. I told myself I needed to become comfortable with stepping outside
of my element in order to grow, so that’s the goal. It was fun.”
Less of a stretch was his role as a country boy in another NakedSword hit, The Gay
Simple Life.
“That one was just fucking fun, man. It was hilarious first of all just watching Josh (Moore)
and Calvin (Banks) together. There were so many times on set I couldn’t even fucking
stop laughing,” he recalls. “mr. Pam was really easy to work with. I was like, ‘What’s my
character?’ And she said, ‘You! Just be Cade!’ And I was like, ‘That’s fucking easy, I love
that.’”
But Maddox discovered maybe he wasn’t as country as he thought.
“It was so funny. I had one fucking job—to teach them how to fish. We were at this pond
in the middle of Tulsa, and Josh throws in this fishing pole that wasn’t working properly—
and he comes out with a fucking fish the first time. But it was like this itty-bitty fish, and
then when it came up, I was supposed to teach him how to take it off the hook. I was
fucking scared to grab it, but I did it. I just had this awful memory of a fish finning me, but I
grabbed it after the second or third time. It was a blast to work with those guys.”
And with a new Falcon contract signed, Maddox looks to make more memories as he
continues to stretch himself.
“They have been amazing to me…they treat me like a king,” Maddox says. “My first
year in the industry, I did things for a rate that I probably shouldn’t have just for exposure.
I felt like I needed to prove myself in the beginning and get my name out there, so I did
everything I could from like appearances to low-dollar scenes, just with the mindset that it
was going to get me exposed, that somebody would see me and hopefully it would get
bigger from there. And it kind of worked out that way.”
