“After much back and forth and debating, I just decided
I would make the grand leap into it…”
Despite what fans often think—and his American accent—Colton
Reece actually spent most of his childhood in France.
“So not your classical American upbringing,” Reece says. “One side of
my family was there for work, so I’m really fortunate on that aspect—I got
to grow up speaking another language and exploring a whole different
side of the world. And my family is also from Hawaii, so that’s also a very
strong part of who I am.”
Reece returned to Hawaii around age 18, but the transition wasn’t as
difficult as might be expected given the big differences in culture.
“I grew up with an American family and went to an American school,
and American culture is so widely available around the world that it wasn’t
too much of a cultural shock,” Reece says.
The European upbringing had one huge benefit: more acceptance of
sexual exploration.
“It would be derelict of me to say that pornography did not have an
impact on discovering my sexuality. Unfortunately, Western education
tries to banish conversations of that quite quickly. So I definitely feel that
as a young person, it had that impact,” he shares. “… I can also say that
I was very fortunate enough to have parents that were educated and
open-minded and made it very easy and comfortable for me to just be
me, and I thank my lucky stars every day for that.”
Reece’s adventurous spirit led to a prophetic declaration: “I was
in school and I actually was having one of those moments where I
complained to a friend that when I was done with school, I was going
to do pornography.”
Reece sent his pictures to legendary director Chi Chi LaRue, and soon
made his debut in the Falcon blockbuster The Pledge—then quickly
signed an exclusive deal with the studio. “After much back and forth
and debating, I just decided I would make the grand leap into it. I was
very nervous, but Falcon did me very well.”
