“I’ve gotten literally hundreds of DMs from people
in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and
India…just thanking me for doing this…”
While growing up in Hollywood, Sharok thought a lot about doing
porn—but was always hesitant to make the leap.
“There wasn’t a lot of room for brown people unless you were uncut
Latino, that kind of thing. There weren’t many other ethnicities in porn,
and there still isn’t really. And I looked very kind of East Indian when I
was younger,” he recalls.
“…As a kid, I needed to see myself represented that way—in a sexual
way—because there’s such a stigma in our culture when it comes to
homosexuality and sex. The only people that I saw in porn were white,
Black or Latino. … They were never somebody who looked like me,
and I didn’t see another Iranian person in porn until Arad [Winwin]. He’s
the only Iranian there is I think besides myself, and it’s super important.”
Sharok shot a scene when he turned 18, but decided to step away
from studio porn to pursue school and kickboxing, including moving to
Thailand to train for a year. He eventually moved to Hawaii for five years
to study horticulture, then was working as a landscaper in Los Angeles
when friend Teddy Bear put the porn itch in him again.
Quickly cast, Sharok had an immediate impact—including multiple
award nominations. He credits Adam Ramzi, Steve Cruz and Chi Chi
LaRue with helping him get his big break. The performer also got in touch
with another side of his sexuality through working with Kink.com: “It
helped me be more assertive with who I am and how I want to represent
myself, just being more authentic.”
Freshly signed to CockyBoys, he looks to continue his evolution—and
be an inspiration to fans looking for better representation.
“I’ve gotten literally hundreds of DMs from people in Turkey, Azerbaijan,
Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and India…just thanking me for doing this, thanking
me for being out there,” says Sharok, adding he is part Turkish. “It’s kind
of surreal. I know this sounds stupid—because I think a lot of times in
the porn industry there’s a lot of ego—but it makes me feel really good,
because as a teenager growing up who looked different and was Middle
Eastern, I didn’t have that example of sexuality for myself.”
