“They thought I was too skinny
and had a terrible haircut.”
Where did you grow up? And when did you first decide to become a performer?
I grew up in the suburbs of Pilsen, Czechia ... next to one of the biggest beer breweries
in Europe. I became an unbearably picky beer connoisseur. It was really good luck
that I didn’t grow up next to coca plantation or munition factory ... One day after
my 18th birthday, my porno-phobic mother walked in my room and found me busy
watching porn. ... She confronted the situation in a very emotional way and my laptop
ended its existence crashing out of the window. This inspired me to buy a new one,
and I promised that I would buy the new one with money derived from shooting. This
enlightened decision brought me all the way to the BelAmi office in Prague, where they
thought I was too skinny and had a terrible haircut (hence the name Helmut). However,
after I pulled down my pants they became more optimistic about my prospects. ...
And Mr. [George] Duroy, who was reading Aldous Huxley’s essay “Minimum Working
Hypothesis,” that day figured out that preposterous model name for me.
