Synthesis is a thought-provoking
exploration of bots and AI. With sex.
AI scientist Seth Gamble's creation,
an Ameena Green-looking robot named
Emme, starts its learning process with
simple tasks like cooking breakfast and
offering capsule biographies of interior
designers, but when she moves on to
sex and personal questions, Gamble
finds that he may have gotten in
over his head, especially when his
lab assistant (Chloe Foxxe) is torn
between Gamble's plan to deactivate
and reprogram Emme and Emme's
whispered plea to let her keep learning
and building on the information she's
already gathered.
When Gamble has a party, he
confides to colleague Isiah Maxwell
that Emme is AI, and later that evening
when Emme walks in on Foxxe and
Maxwell getting busy in the bathroom,
she joins them. When Gamble catches
them, he explodes at Emme in a
jealous rage.
The well-thought-out premise
is brought to life by director Ricky
Greenwood; and fine acting, particularly
by Gamble, Greene and Foxxe.
