After making a splash in reality television, former model and beauty queen Jayne Doh found herself in the midst of much adoration and much criticism after Famous in 12 made its debut on the CW Network in 2014.
Wearing a stylish black dress and black heels, the easygoing starlet smiles as she recalls her days as a reality star and Flavor of the Month status where she made the rounds of the various entertainment news shows after the series premiered.
“I’ve been a guest on Extra and been a hot topic on The Wendy Williams Show, I’ve done E! Entertainment, Tosh.0 where they spoofed me and it was fun,” she said. “So I’ve done all that and it was exciting.”
The reality series, which featured Doh along with her siblings and mother, followed the story of a family that tries to achieve fame within a 12-week time frame by moving to Los Angeles. Although the show lasted just one season, Doh didn’t miss a beat as she continued her career in modeling, competing in beauty pageants and occasional acting.
Not bad for a quiet L.A. girl who grew up being a math nerd who often competed in the local science fair, Mathathons, Academic Decathlons and more, ultimately earning the second highest GPA at her high school.
“I was such a nerd! Oh my God!” she exclaimed with laugh as she covered her face while recalling those days.
She would go on compete in various beauty pageants and earned the title of Miss California Goldcoast and Miss Palm Springs USA, along with other titles.
“Later, I did modeling. I worked for everyone. I was on Harley-Davidson billboards, it was one of my favorites,” she recalled. “I did David’s Bridals, all those really fun companies and then I walked in Fashion Week, Mercedes Benz Couture Fashion Week in New York, Miami Swim Week, I walked in Paris. I’ve been to Monaco, so I did all that stuff. It was exciting and new.”
She also caught the eye film and TV producers who saw the statuesque L.A. native as a natural performer.
“I didn’t just start going to auditions. I went to acting classes. I practiced in the mirror,
I practiced facial expressions. I tried to learn new dances, even though I’m not dancing anymore,” she recalled. “And then I decided to switch over and abandon it. I decided to get into adult films.”
The move into adult industry wasn’t much of a reach for Doh who had already been doing fetish videos where she was kicking men in the balls for ProtectYourNuts.com. Although she was fully clothed, the site gave her an insight into a unique industry niche.
“For me leaving modeling and acting was easy,” said Doh, who is represented by ATMLA. “I did TV films and movies, and then I was bored and I decided to switch over and abandon it. But it’s not hard to do. Because If you work to get the next job, you work to get the next job and if you’re using the same skills then use them and I always sharpen them.”
The career change was especially gratifying for Doh who often felt under much stress as a model and pageant contestant.
“I like the genuineness of porn and what is expected,” she said. “The one thing I didn’t like about the pageant world was the fakeness in it. It was so fake and no one was having fun. There were no enjoyable moments. You know. And what I like about the adult film industry, there’s a lot of prep, just like with pageants. You have to make sure your body is right and your skin looks good. There’s a lot of things you have to do and then you get to work and you have fun while you’re at work.”
