When Katerina DeVille decided to move to Los Angeles last year, she didn’t think twice about leaving her native South Carolina where she called home for all of her 23 years.
“I had taken a break from camming and I was bartending a lot and I just wanted to do it,” she recalled. “Nobody gets out of the South until you just get out of the South. I just put two cats in the back of the car and I drove for three days and that’s it. My mom wasn’t even home when I left.”
Without a friend in the entire city, the petite brunette met Ally Summers who had also been considering getting into porn when the two moved in together and planned their next move to get into the industry.
But things wouldn’t be easy for DeVille as she worked small jobs to keep her head above water. She soon found her car repossessed, lost her apartment and was losing hope when she and Summers remembered receiving a recommendation about OC Modeling.
“California was kicking my ass, I didn’t know. I wasn’t expecting what the taxes were like and what the pay was like...I’ve got nothing else to lose and I can’t cam from my car,” she said. “So now I’m staying at a friend’s house and can’t cam from there either, so I’m going to do the next best thing. ‘Hey OC Modeling are you still ready for me?’”
The two besties soon joined the industry together and received a quick introduction to how things worked.
“In my first month I learned if I have to do costume upkeep and hair and makeup upkeep,
so I’d put a lump sum or of money aside once a month or twice a month,” she said. “All the money I spent since I’ve been in this business has been for the business because I didn’t have any girly clothes, I didn’t have nails, I didn’t have makeup.”
But with her energetic performances and her striking look, the blue-eyed beauty saw her popularity grow and she found herself shooting for Exploited College Girls, Cherry Pimps, New Sensations, TeamSkeet and others. Her pretty face and sassy attitude soon made her a favorite in teen-themed scenes.
“I do like the ones with a lot of acting. At first I was more scared of dialogue and voiceovers but now that’s the fun of it,” she said. “That’s what makes it. The acting. Creating that character you’re playing even though you’re about to have sex is great. There’s also very heavy dialogue and those are really fun, too.”
But as her schedule fills up with studio and her own content shoots, she is most appreciative of the culture and vibe of Southern California.
“I love the weather. It’s so beautiful. I’m walking everywhere,” she said as she waved her arms to accentuate her point. “I don’t need a car necessarily in L.A. I take a walk every day, I walk up and down Topanga and do my shopping. When I go to my grocery stores back home it’s a 20-minute drive to get there, but here in L.A. I can enjoy a 20-minute walk to the store. I enjoy walking.”
As for her future plans, she is dedicating her time to growing her fanbase and raising her profile through her own marketing plan.
“I don’t accept everything. I don’t want to do DPs and I don’t want to do anals,” she said. “I’m building my brand and I want to have my fans or the people that are watching something to look forward to so if I can do these softcore things in my first year and earn a nomination. It can only get better. As long as I’m engaging and I’m listening to them say, ‘Hey Kat, we want to see you with this person’ and I can try to make it happen.”
