CJ Miles doesn’t charge fans for photos with her—she never did, even back in her days as a promotional model at import car shows.
“Because when I go to car show before, they charge $20,” Miles recalls. “I take picture with them for free, sign autograph for free. It’s for my fans. It feels like my brother, my nephew. No, you can keep that. Let’s take more, let’s take video. For me, it’s fun.”
When the Filipino star danced at the Spearmint Rhino Las Vegas for 12 years she met numerous celebrities, but she had no idea who any of them were.
“I grew up with no TV,” Miles says. “I never had TV in my whole life.”
She once gave a signed poster to Mike Tyson without realizing he was the former heavyweight champion.
“I don’t care who they are. Good for them,” CJ says. “I just don’t get starstruck. I feel like everyone’s equal.”
Even though Miles has attained a level of success she never would’ve thought possible when she was a homeless teen in Manila, she always remembers her humble beginnings. Now when CJ returns to her native country she always makes sure to buy food for the
kids who are on the streets and in the orphanage.
“But I don’t post that because I don’t want to post that shit,” CJ tells me.
She encourages her friends to do it, too.
“I told my friends for $100 you can feed 20 kids,” Miles says. “And buy a lot of toys. Every
time there’s a typhoon I send money to my sister or I ask my friends to donate like 20 dollars each. My friends will donate and then we send it to the kids—like a sack of rice.
“So when something happens my sister sends it to the mayor and they give it away. And my sister take a picture of what I send just to know that it goes to the right way.”
