and making these really low-fi, mumblecore kind of movies, and I wanted this year to explore some bigger sets, bigger casts, more creative cinematography. And I was feeling very inspired by the idea of shooting at a theater and doing something with live theater.”
While she has some theater experience in her background (“I was a drama kid, I went to performing arts summer camp and did all of that”), Calvert’s husband and AVN Hall of Famer Bryn Pryor, who co-wrote the script with her, “has a ton of live theater experience,” she said, “and I leaned on him for some of the inside-baseball theater language and the theater vernacular.”
Calvert’s principal players for the six-scene opus—whose tone she describes as “a little bit like dark British comedy, slightly absurd”—are Victoria Voxxx, Seth Gamble, Charlotte Sartre, Maya Woulfe and Tyler Knight, in a non-sex role as the play’s director.
“And they were all incredible,” she hailed. In particular, she said she was surpassingly impressed with the performances turned in by Gamble and Sartre.
