can all slut-shame for writing about sex for 20 years
at the next Christmas party. Thank you.
After her Academy Award win, I also remembered
the headlines: ”Stripper Wins Oscar,” and “From
Stripper to Screenwriter” like they wouldn’t let her
live it down. Even the New York Times titled their
piece, “Climbing The Stripper Pole To Hollywood
Stardom,” which struck me as judgmental and
demeaning. Brad Pitt’s stripper past has been barely
mentioned.
Since then, she has sold a bunch of television and
movie scripts to Universal and 20th Century Fox,
wrote and produced a TV series for Showtime, had
a movie made from her script starring Charlize Theron,
and has become a director. Oh, and she wrote a play
that was produced on Broadway last year. And she is
only 42, so there is lots of girl power left. In an interview
with the London Telegraph she said, “I felt more naked
writing than I did as a stripper.” So if people are so
jealous of you, you’re doing something right.

Chris Pratt was a teenage stripper, which sounds
like a movie in itself. “I was always a very much
naked person. I loved to always get naked. I was
very free, so I thought I may as well get paid,” he
told Buzzfeed.
When he was 18 he made his first $40 movin’
the merch for the ladies, but admits that after
auditioning for a stripper gig at a club, he never got
a call back, which led him to think he “wasn’t a very
good dancer.” When Ellen asked him on her show
if he was ever a stripper, he said he did it “for a little
while and he was a “low rent Magic Mike,” adding,
“one of my gigs was at a friend’s grandma’s.”
During a press tour for his Jurassic World, he told a
British chat show host that he was an “unsuccessful
stripper,” and that he “just wasn’t paying the bills.”
He married Maria Shriver and Arnold
Schwarzenegger’s daughter Katherine and just had
a baby with her and next will star in the upcoming
release Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, Oh, and
he has found Jesus, who has totally forgiven him
for being a stripper.
