Angela White plays a dissatisfied
married woman who forms a strange
bond with a shadowy mystic-cum-
dominatrix (Maitland Ward) who
keeps quarters in the seamier part
of downtown Los Angeles.
Writer-director Kayden Kross, in
her most ambitious feature so far,
deals trenchantly with issues of
repression, jealousy, insecurity, all
in a sexual context. And superstar
White shows not only her acting
chops but her ability to mesmerize
while keeping her clothes on. (They
don’t come off until the third sex
scene.)
The climax is a massive orgy
with three women (Angela, Emily
Willis, Kira Noir) and five men,
and it’s magnificent, one of the
best shot, edited and performed
group scenes ever. Like the rest
of the movie, it’s superlatively
photographed by Kross’ frequent
collaborator Winston Henry.
The ending is something of a
shocker, echoing Maitland’s earlier
question to Angela: “Why did you
think finding yourself would be a
good thing?”
