“Having sex in a place where you might get
caught heightens the excitement level, raises the
adrenaline, and ups the sexual tension. ”
just say he was urinating—or worse,
taking a dick pic selfie to send to
some poor girl on Tinder.
Doing it in a car is the No. 1
favorite public place, and sexual
activity inside an automobile that
is visible to someone outside the
vehicle constitutes lewd behavior.
The charges are misdemeanors,
and most people end up with a
small fine—or community service at
the most. So to anyone considering
have sex in a public place, we’ll be
watching you.
Surveying Hot Spots
A survey of 2,000 people was
conducted by Onepoll for sex toy
retailer EdenFantasys.com. It found
that 69 percent of Americans “had
sex in a place they risked getting
caught.” Of those surveyed, 76
percent had sex outdoors and 25
percent were caught doing the nasty
in a place they shouldn’t be doing it
in. (More than 10 percent admitted
to doing it in a roommate’s bed.)
Other places people confessed to
doing it were at the Eiffel Tower, on
a train track, under a stage during a
concert, in a courthouse bathroom
before appearing in front of a judge,
while driving 70 mph, in a car during
a car wash, in someone else’s
garage, and in the New York City
subway, which as a New Yorker is
the last place I’m doin’ it. Other hot
spots included sex in an elevator, sex
on the kitchen cabinet or table, and
“sex on a boss or co-workers’ desk
who you hate,” a passive-aggressive
way to screw the person they think is
screwing them.
Nine percent of people said they
were barely watching the movie
while they had sex at a movie theater.
(Scenes we’d like to see.) And 70
percent said they had enjoyed
some “road head.” Another study,
conducted by the Journal of Sexual
Research, said that doing it in a car
is still an auto erotica hot spot.
From a psychological standpoint,
having sex in a place where you might
get caught heightens the excitement
level, raises the adrenaline, and ups
the sexual tension. Plus, the fact that
there is an actual legal charge of
“indecent exposure” adds to the risk.
A new trend in the adult world: cam
girls who get paid for filming their
public sex encounters, providing
excitement for viewers without the
danger of personally getting caught.
One interesting takeaway from
the survey was that 58 percent of
people said that sex “somewhere
other than the bedroom made them
happier in their relationship.” And
that 70 percent of respondents said
that “having sex in an adventurous
location made them feel closer to their
partner.” The shared psychological
thrill creates a bond and makes the
experience memorable. (“Remember
that time we snuck into that barn and
got caught by the Amish farmer?”)
Sex anywhere but the bedroom is
fun, exciting, and should be added to
everyone’s future list of sexcapades.
It’s spring, so it’s time to get out and
get it on, somewhere, anywhere.
