JANUARY 2016
WE’VE GOT ISSUES | | By Sharan Street
Together Again
spend some time surrounded by the industry’s leading business people
January is when we here at AVN get a chance to get out of the office and
and performers at the annual AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, sponsored
by MyFreeCams.com. There you’ll meet the editorial staff, including legal
editor Mark Kernes—who’s been with the magazine almost as long as
it’s been in existence. Covering the AVN Novelty Expo and its seminars will be
Sherri L. Shaulis, our pleasure products editor. DVD news editor Peter Warren will
also be on the show floor when he’s not at the AVN booth fielding questions from
talent about the AVN Awards Show, sponsored by Chaturbate. And I’ll be making
the rounds as well, starting with the Internext Expo on January 16 and going on
until the AVN Awards Show, which takes place Saturday, January 23—a seven-day
stretch we call “AVN Week.”
But at the upcoming AVN Week there will be another face—a very familiar
one to industry veterans—and to our staff members. On November 20, AVN
announced that adult industry journalist Dan Miller had come on board as the new
managing editor of its media products, including AVN magazine and AVN.com.
Miller brings 14 years of adult industry experience to AVN, where he started his
career in 2001. He is returning to AVN from XBIZ, where he worked as managing
editor since 2010.
A native of Pittsburgh, Miller broke into adult as the AVN.com associate editor
in 2001. He became editor-in-chief in 2006 and held various other positions such
as executive editor and vice president of the content division during his first nine
years in the business.
“I’m thrilled to be back with AVN, the same place where I started this adventure
in adult entertainment,” Miller said. “I gained invaluable experience during the
past five years at XBIZ and feel fortunate to have been a part of so many great
projects.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my professional growth with the
new generation at AVN. I look forward to telling the story of the industry once
again at an organization with such a colorful history in our business.”
A career journalist who started in mainstream, Miller previously worked as a
sportswriter at the San Gabriel Valley Tribune in West Covina, Calif., and the East
Valley Tribune in Mesa, Ariz., where he traveled the country covering professional,
college and high school sporting events.
It’s great to have Dan on our team again, and it’s safe to say things have gotten
off to a great start. This month he’s penned a story on the growing phenomenon
of the “cam star”—a timely topic on the eve of AVN Week, when the industry’s
biggest cam companies will be bringing their top models to AEE. And he also put
together a GayVN supplement in this issue.
Elsewhere in these pages you’ll find an interview with Mile High/O.L.
Entertainment’s Jon Blitt, who discusses his company’s new studio, Dark X, and
more. There are also interviews with Katie Morgan, Erik Everhard and Kendra
Lust, as well as a special section of Editor’s Choice DVD reviews in the front of
the magazine, starting on page 42.
And of course there are a few features related to goings-on in Las Vegas, with
information on AVN Awards comedian Kate Quigley, trophy girls Elsa Jean and
Jenna Sativa, some previews of show highlights, and definitely most important, a
complete rundown on all of the 2016 inductees into the AVN Hall of Fame. Find
out more about the newest members of the Hall of Fame inside, and join us in Las
Vegas at a cocktail party to honor them on the eve of AEE.
