WE’VE GOT ISSUES | | By Sharan Street
The ‘Oooooh’ Factor
front-load your shelves with your softest, sexiest wares to meet the
Hearts and flowers and chocolates—it’s that time of year again. Time to
demands of shoppers looking for something to delight a lover.
What are they looking for? Like any gift giver, they’re seeking to
elicit a big response from their loved ones. And there are
plenty of must-stock items that can bring about the desired reactions.
First, offer items to make your shoppers say Mmmmmm. Something
delectable to pique the taste buds, or tingling to perk up the skin. Of
course you stock items from Kama Sutra, Shunga, Classic Erotica and
Earthly Body. But there are some items that debuted at the January shows.
Wicked Sensual Care brought out Awaken, a clitoral massaging gel.
Awaken will be available in stores and e-tail sites in time for Valentine’s
Day. Created to heighten sensitivity and enhance libido, Awaken is an
herbal blend of botanicals and aphrodisiacs—and most notably, it is lightly
flavored and not too tingly, so it isn’t a deterrant to oral sex.
Doc Johnson also added a new item in this category with Buzz Liquid
Vibrator, an odorless scent designed to heighten a woman’s sensations
when applied to the clitoris. The gel subtly stimulates and it is sugar-,
paraben- and glycerin-free.
Jimmyjane has something to delight three senses at once with its
newest special-edition Afterglow massage candle. Redolent of figs and
chocolate, the candle pleases the eyes, nose and sense of touch. Mmmmmm.
Also welcome for Valentine’s Day are items make our loved ones say
Awwww—toys that are oh so cute, cuddly, adorable. In addition to such
favorites as The Girls from Vibratex and the Muse from NS Novelties, a
couple of newcomers caught buyers’ eyes at the AVN Novelty Expo. Clandestine
Devices, a new brand from director Jules Jordan, offered up the Mimic, a lay-on
vibrator that looks like a tiny sea creature. Tokyo Designs showcased its Macaron
vibrator, a brightly colored massager that replicates the form of its namesake, the
popular French confection. And there were kits from Novel Erotics, with
an assortment of toys hidden away in boxes designed to look like books.
Over at ANME, the Rabbit Company offered up the portable, USB-
rechargeable Pocket Rabbit; Maia Toys showcased the attractive Maddie
and Margo, both rechargeable; and Big Teaze offered its new cat-shaped
massagers. Purrrrrr.
Some gifts just make men and women go Oooooh. Tricked-out and app-
driven, or posh and luxurious, these toys are dressed to impress—names
like LELO, OhMiBod, Eroscillator, Fun Factory, Joydivision, njoy, Nomi
Tang, Tantus and We-Vibe.
What made us take notice last month? Shots America’s new Vive
collection, for one, with its elegant gold accents. And there are two new
collections coming from Jopen: the Opal line, with glass shafts, and the
bejeweled Callie vibrators.
And at the AVN Novelty Expo there were some exciting new faces.
Pearl and Pistol brought out several unique designs in its Tréasor
collection, including the French Kiss and The Big “O.”
And Eldorado Trading Co. brought out the Prisms from L’Amourose.
These beauties combined jewel-like colors with a faceted surface that
looks like no other vibe on the market (pictured). After running a hand
over the smooth silicone, it was official. In a word, Oooooh.
