It’s no secret that what with the threat of Cal/OSHA fines and the menace of content theft, times are
tough for content producers. And that’s translated into a slowdown in shooting, as anyone in the indus-
try can attest. On the positive side, it’s also led to some creative attempts on the part of performers to
stay busy during the slow summer days. Here are some ingenious ways to think outside the DVD box.

What with all the recent

the twenty-dollar bill with a woman,
and succeeded in just a matter of
weeks—well, sort of: a famous woman
from history will join Alexander
Hamilton on the ten dollar bill—there’s
been a renewed interest in historical
women, and who better to tell their
stories with a sexy adult feminist twist
than popular adult performers Ela
Darling and Sovereign Syre?
Boss Bitches of History is a new series
from Wisecrack, the producers of
the funny, popular series Thug Notes,
8-Bit Philosophy and Earthling Cinema.
The new comedic series is dedicated
to celebrating emboldened women
throughout the ages who bucked the
sexist hegemony of their time. The
show is created, written and hosted
by Sovereign Syre and Ela Darling,
Of course they do. Darling—a self-described
“nerdfighter,” avid reader and partner in VRTube.xxx, the
latest entrant in the growing adult VR market—has both
a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology and a master’s
degree in library science focusing on youth literature
and services, while Syre studied sociology in college,
hosts the Observations with Sovereign Syre podcast on
JulilandRadio.com, and has written extensively for such
two entertainers whom showrunner
Jared Bauer says “defy contemporary
standards of American intellectualism

and feminism.”

“As soon as I saw Thug Notes,
I met Jared and we started
developing a show, I knew this
was going to be an awesome
collaboration,” said Syre. “I’ve
always wanted to do something
with history, and the show is
the perfect outlet. Working with
Wisecrack is awesome. These
guys get it.”
“I’m super stoked about the
launch of Boss Bitches of History,”
Darling added. “And more than
anything I’m excited to get
to collaborate with Sov, who
I’ve known for years. Working
with the guys at Wisecrack has
been awesome from the start.
They’re super smart, and above
all, crazy enough to pursue a
project like this.”
Wisecrack is a Los Angeles-
based media collective run
by comedians, academics,
filmmakers and artists. They
combine unconventional
storytelling and academic
precision with the intention of
promoting critical thinking to
the YouTube generation.
The show has launched with
two episodes. The first explores
Cleopatra, the last great
pharaoh to rule Egypt, and the
second focuses on Marie-Josèph
dite Angélique, the rebellious
Portuguese slave who burned
down half of Montreal in
revenge for her mistreatment.
New episodes of Boss Bitches
of History will air bimonthly at
