hroughout the years, there have been some major mile-
stones in the world of vibrators. The use of silicone, the
addition of bright colors, the use of dual motors in rabbit-style
models, the addition of row of rotating beads, the ability of a
shaft to rotate, and so on. But one thing has always remained a
constant since the earliest days of vibrators: They all relied on
the same type of motor.
A big development came along in 1996, when the oscillating motor
of the Eroscillator debuted. And this year more innovations surfaced, as
several pleasure product manufacturers stretched their wings and their
imaginations to come up with new ways to provide pleasure.
California Exotic Novelties is one of the companies leading the
charge, with their Gyrations Sensations line of vibrators. Built on the
concept of offering a different type of sensation, the vibrations are
deep, rumbly, powerful gyrations.
“The Gyration Sensations use state-of-the art technology,” explained
Susan Colvin, founder and president of CalExotics. “In addition to the
unique gyrating motors, many of the toys are powered by the
Performance Plus Controller. It features a handy auto-off button and a
memory chip so the user can immediately go back to the last function
used. The ‘trigger button’ makes it ergonomic and easy to use. It
connects with a universal plug in jack so the user can swap out
different products if they’d like.”
One of the most popular products in the collection is the Rockin’
Enhancers. These silicone teasers generate 10 incredible functions of
gyrating action and provide support for him and added sensations for
her, Colvin said.
“The Mini Gyrating Thumper and Jumper are
also very popular. Silky smooth and whisper quiet,
they are a must-have in any store’s vibrator section,”
she added.
Fun Factory made headlines when the German-
engineered pleasure product company launched its
Stronic Eins. The Stronic Eins is the first of the
company’s Pulsator vibes, which use a patented
technology that lets the piece simulate the rhythmic
thrusting motion of sex rather than vibrate.
The company spent 18 months developing the
Pulsators, more of which will be released in the
coming months. The device delivers strong, firm
impulses that are designed to simulate the natural
movements of lovemaking.
“The Stronic One and its pulsating technology
will revolutionize the market and mark the start of
a new trend in the industry,” said Frederic Walme,
CEO of Fun Factory USA. “I am proud that Fun
Factory is confirming its position as a true innova-
tor in the market place. With more newness in the
pipeline for 2013, we will continue to push
boundaries and bring innovative fun, securing our
spot as one of the top brands to consider.”
The patented technology used in Pulsators was
deemed by testers all around the world to be “more
enjoyable than vibrations.” One tester in the United
States claimed, “the thrusts of Stronic One are power-
ful and naturalistic, leading to more intense orgasms
than even the strongest vibrators I ever used.”
Stronic One stands 9 inches tall, with a silicone
insertable portion measuring 5 inches and a silicone
clitoral extension 2 inches long. At its base, Stronic
One has a girth of 5.5 inches. The diameter of the
shaft is 4.5 inches and the slightly curved end only
0.5 inches thinner than the shaft. The available
colors are hot pink and deep violet.
And rather than deliver movement and stimula-
tion through a buzzing motor, the Pulsators silently
rock back and forth thanks to a complex weighted
device instead of a motor.
But that’s not the only new technology making
headlines in the sex toys world.
Revel Body is a new company from Seattle that
conducted a successful crowd-funding campaign on
IndieGoGo.com for its sonic vibrator. Company rep
Linda Cox said the product’s True Sonic Technology
is based on that used in sonic toothbrushes.
“We did a lot of research and found out people
were using their toothbrushes for more than just
brushing their teeth,” she said. “So the company
leaders decided to try and develop that technology
into something more powerful to be used in a real
sex toy.”
And voilà, they patented the True Sonic
technology.
Unlike traditional rotary motors, which typically
vibrate at a range of about 60-100Hz, TrueSonic
resonating motors provide a significantly wider
range of vibration—adjustable between 24-
200Hz—and substantially more power than any
other battery-powered vibrator. With only a single
moving part, True Sonic motors are also extremely
quiet and efficient, lasting at least four times longer
than traditional rotary motors.
“We realized the majority of devices in this big,
competitive industry all use the same class of rotary
motors, and basically all experienced the same
issues,” said Robin Elenga, founder and CEO of
Revel Body. “Companies compete on everything
from color and shape to packaging and price, but
never vibration. Yet, vibration is the primary
function of these devices. We knew we could build
a better motor and product that together, would
offer users increased sensation and a better
experience overall.”
Though still only in the prototype stages, the
Revel Body sonic vibrator will offer more than three
times the vibration range of today’s battery powered
vibrators, the company claims. Compared to cur-
rent vibrator technology, the True Sonic technology
and Revel Body sonic vibrator will offer more than
200 percent wider vibration range, 90 percent
reduction in noise, 50 percent more power, and 80
percent less vibration to the hand, according to data
from pre-production prototype models.
