It’s fair to say that 2013 was a
tough year for Porn Valley, what
with condom ordinances, produc-
tion shutdowns and shrinking
movie budgets. But you wouldn’t
know it by the inventive output
of porn parody maven Will
Ryder. In addition to reviving the
Not the Bradys XXX franchise with
Marcia Goes to College (a mix of
old and new footage), he tackled
some different cultural behe-
moths: a beloved musical (Grease
XXX: A Parody), a campy ’70s sit-
com (Love Boat XXX) and an
edgy, scatological animated series

Brandy Aniston as the Wicked
Witch. All the musical

Turner and James Bartholet
doing stellar jobs at
showcasing the clever lyrics

Dorothy with Mac Turner as the Scarecrow.

But the biggest challenge of all had to be taking on one of the
screen’s most loved movies—and doing it on a budget that might
not produce a mainstream music video … let alone the five that
Ryder created for Not the Wizard of Oz XXX. Produced by his own
X-Play company and distributed by Pulse, Ryder’s Oz was famous-
ly shot in 27 hours.
Guardians of virtue will rail at scenes of Auntie Em (Nina
Hartley) turning tricks (not the wizardly kind) to make the mort-
gage, and a Munchkin (Stella Marie) getting down with one of
the Wicked Witch’s guards (Eric John). And those are just two of
the seven sex scenes crammed into those 27 hours on set, two of
which got AVN Award noms: the final three-way between Dorothy
(Maddy O’Reilly), Glinda (Anikka Albrite) and the Emerald City guard
(Kurt Lockwood), and the midget matchup for Most Outrageous Sex
Scene.
But the real standouts here are the songs and the performances. The
casting is terrific, in particular Brandy Aniston as the Wicked Witch. All
the musical numbers are memorable, with Dick Chibbles, Mac Turner
and James Bartholet doing stellar jobs at showcasing the clever lyrics.
Though not all critics have raved about it, there
’
s a vocal contingent
here at AVN that found it to be one of the most entertaining releases of
the year. It’s pure gold for those who enjoy both the original MGM
movie and hardcore, stroke-worthy sex scenes: two great fantasy tastes
that go great together.
